Frequently asked questions

You’ve got questions. I’ve got answers.

What is the purpose of therapy?

Therapy is a safe space to share unfiltered thoughts, experiences, perceptions, and ideas. It can be a place to unpack and process past trauma, parts of identity, daily or weekly struggles, interactions with others, systems or relationships. Insight is an important part of the therapeutic process. Some prefer hands-on skills that can be easily applied in everyday life. No matter what you are looking for, we can collaborate to determine the best therapeutic style to fit your needs.

What can I expect to happen in a therapy session?

Please note: the therapeutic modalities I use fit under the umbrella of "talk therapy". The first therapy session is a chance for history taking. I will collect information about your past and present. We will identify parts of your identity that you are bringing into therapy. We will pinpoint what you would like to focus on in therapy and determine whether or not you have any therapy goals or directions. Subsequently, the therapy process will begin which will involve you bringing problems, struggles and questions to the table to frame our work. Your feedback is welcomed throughout the therapeutic process. The therapeutic alliance is central to successful treatment outcomes.

How soon can I notice a change?

Most individuals and couples see noticeable changes within 8 therapy sessions. More significant change can be seen in 16-20 therapy sessions. I recommend weekly therapy followed by breaks, rather than bi-weekly or monthly therapy. I offer 30-minute counselling sessions at a relatively affordable therapy session fee if cost is a barrier.
